Located in Atlanta, Nebraska or 'Hot'lanta as I
like to call it, on Highway 6&34, 7 miles SE of Holdrege, the Husker Hut is another
roadside attraction which had it's hey-dey in the years before Interstate
80 was built. The Tee-Pee part of the structure was built during a
time when proprietors would do just about anything to lure travelers off
the road. As a child, I remember seeing a sign at the 'Wig-Wam' souvenir
shop that read "Baby Rattlers" After reading that sign
many times, I finally got to stop and when I looked in the box, there were
a bunch of plastic baby rattles.

This classic structure was recently purchased
by Jim and Sally Fox and they have completely renovated and built on in
every direction. Serving lunch and dinner with an expanded menu on
the weekends, the "Hut" also offers a full sand volleyball
court, party rooms and a pool table.

At 79
going on 17, Dorothy Nelson is a dancing fool. Always going right up to the
last song of the night, showing the youngsters how it's done. Come
to the Husker Hut and feel the magical power of the Wig Wam.
